Meeting - 17 November 2010

Everyone present

Fun Day - Relatives Day next Friday
All Year 6s and Council Members to make their plan for their activity.
Briarna to write a note to invite family/friends - join us for a BBQ and stay on for the activities in the afternoon.
Ms. D to give Samara and Briarna time this afternoon to complete these.

Pet Day - Samara and Briarna must work on the schedule and the letters to pet shops asking for prizes.

Council Speech - JM needs to make some progress on this.

Jeannie to collect stars today for Starship Foundation - leave in Ms. D's office and then we will judge tomorrow and post away.
Mornington Messenger article - Ms. D will give Jeannie time this afternoon.

Sam - did Mrs. T want something from the McCain promotion? No, he said.

Clean Up Day - Samara must drive the fundraising - go around and remind everyone each day. Talk about it at assembly.
Briarna to talk about Pet Day at assembly also.

Briarna - we are on our 3rd plumber now - Briarna to phone again.

Zayleah - Walking to school week (Feet First) - notice in newsletter tomorrow and the following week.

Principal for a Day - Ms. D has had a think and will look at it in another couple of weeks when some of these other big events are completed.

Meeting - 28 October

Aaron absent from school today.

Relatives' Day - Briarna and Aaron will need to work out the schedule for this day.

Clean Up Day - Samara announcing it at assembly tomorrow and then giving out the information on Monday.

Vege order (McCain) - Sam to ask Mrs. T if she wants everything. Ms. D and Sam to order over the next week.

Walking to School - Zayleah to organise this for Week 7 of this term.

Principal's shout for lunch - children to give their feedback to Ms. D next week - sushi? burger? Etc.

Water Fountain - Briarna phoned Blair again to chase up quote.

Pet Day - not too far away - Briarna and Samara to write a letter for parents. Contact Pet Shops for some free giveaways. Decided to donate a tin or dried food for the SPCA on the same day.

End of Year Skit - Zayleah and Katelyn want to have a go this time.

Stars - Jeannie will announce at assembly tomorrow and hand them out on Monday (or give to Teachers to do).

End of Year Gala Night - Council Speech - The Year That Was - Year 6 role - Jason-Mark wants to have a go at putting something together.
Ms. D to do one more afternoon tea shout - everyone else has had 2 turns each so this is a 'fair' point at which to stop.

Council asked about doing 'Principal for a Day' again this year - Ms. D to think.

Meeting - Wednesday 8 September

Everyone present.

BK forgot the afternoon tea, will bring it next week.

Fair Go Ad - Aaron shared his idea, the council agreed it is a good idea but Aaron will need to organise it and we can assist with the filming.

Hot Chocolate Selling for this Friday - Katelyn checked with Marie and we have all of the things we need.
Will be selling them at morning tea and lunchtime - Ms D to assist.

Disco - BK on music, Sam and Samara to see Marie re. food and drink and a float of change on the night.
Decorations - streamers. Glo sticks?

Pet Day - Set a date - 9-10am on Wednesday 24 November.

McCain - red Vegie truck - Ms D-R has emailed and is waiting to hear back.
This Friday - Year 5 and 6 are away at Edgar on Friday so may miss out.

Peter Chin's visit - Jason-Mark, thank you.

Keep promoting the McCain vegie promotion.
Zayleah to keep on with the daffodil day selling.
Jeannie has sent cheque off to Fred Hollows with our $25 donation.

Samara - cupcake promotion - go around classes and promote in newsletter.

Relative Day - one Friday afternoon next term. Good beginning planning. BK to now plan some actual activities - in classes, on the field, dress up, etc.

Term Four - Zay to do the walking challenge amongst the classes.

Katelyn is selling hot chocolates one lunchtime. What day this term? How much $1. Jason-Mark and Zayleah to help. One Monday andTuesday in the foyer. Advertise in the newsletter.

Pet Day - still thinking about this idea.

Water Fountain letter to PTA - Aaron promises to do this!

$200 from Cadburys towards fundraising. Will be used toward water fountain. Samara will write to Cadburys once the water fountain is in and thank them.

Council Meeting - 11 August 2010

No apologies.

Samara brought the afternoon tea - thank you. Zayleah to bring it next week.

Jeannie did very well with the Fred Hollows activity yesterday. Raised $25 and will be sent away.

Katelyn - her activity will be - hot chocolate selling one lunchtime.

Cupcakes - remind people to bring their money. $1 each or 6 for $4.50
Encourage parents to order some from the office.

Aaron still needs to co-ordinate the Caretaker Award.

Script going well - sharing the ideas with us at next week's meeting.

Zayleah - the daffodil box has arrived - to work out how to sell this.

McCains - look on the website again.

Disco this term - Katelyn and Jeannie you're on the prizes and the microphone. Briarna and Sam and Samara - on food and drinks. Theme is: Rainforest

Jason-Mark to see Miss Little for the date and then to contact Mayor Peter Chin for reading at Book Week.

Daffodil Day - check the email to see if they have replied to Zayleah.

Money to spend - what would you do with it? Zayleah and Briarna to ask each class.
Council Ideas: Hand dryers are not powerful enough; locks on the toilet doors; mirrors on the corner of the buildings so that you don't run into someone; small class pets; a quieter bell in the library; widening of the pathway up to the top field; lunch tables; flying fox for playground; girls hot water taps don't really work well, dinosaur slide; swings; speaker system in the classrooms.

Sam has signed up for the McCain promotion - needs to keep advertising it.

Samara has entered our 'Clean Up' Day - 5 November.

Jeannie has a good idea for the Fred Hollows promotion - egg and spoon race with the glasses on - 50c a turn and you can have as many turns as you like - prizes - held one lunchtime next term.

Disco - Briarna/Aaron and Sam. Jason-Mark to organise music and ask Mr. MacLeod to help.
Zayleah to buy fizzy, chips and glowsticks.
On the night - Aaron and Katelyn will be on selling.
Spot prizes - Briarna.
Michael Jackson theme - or anything sparkly. Prizes for best MJ costume, moves, etc.

Meeting - 3 June 2010

Ms D had a bit of 'rant' about effort levels from some. A Chairperson from time-to-time may need to get their committee motivated - step up, or step off!

Fred Hollows - haven't heard from Sam yet, Jeannie will email Ms. D.

Briarna needs to find out the full amount of money raised from Make A Wish - Dress Up Day - organise cheque and write a letter to include with money.
Canteen is going well - so far we had a $50 profit.
BK has also got the challenge jars sorted out.

Aaron is going to make a decision re. the Water Fountain - Ms. D to give him the info.

Katelyn is going to push the Red Sock Day.
Zayleah is working hard on the Greatest Feet - needs to ensure that posters are up and people are getting updates.
Samara has registered the Clean Up/Green Up Day - needs some help from Ms. D today.

Jeannie - is on track with her writing for the MM and Star now.

Sam - School Veggie Patches Campaign - Sam will register us tonight and tell the school in assembly what to collect.

Grandparents Day - this is still in the pipeline.

Red Socks Day - Katelyn to put something in the newsletter tomorrow. Start getting the money and the orders to the office.

Fred Hollows Competition - Jeannie and Sam to read up and make up a competition.

Jeannie - STAR - Ms Dillon did email Belinda Harwood but never heard back re. the timeline. We will go and follow this up.

Meeting - 5 May 2010

Aaron brought the afternoon tea (again, sorry) - he has had his turns for the year!

Zayleah spoke to Mrs. T about the Careers Day and Mrs. T wants to have a look over the information.

Katleyn was at the shop in her pyjamas and saw Mr. Graham getting an ice-cream.

Samara is on Afternoon Tea next meeting. There will be no meeting next week as Ms. D is not here and alternative days are difficult with netball, miniball, Kapa Haka, Chess club and ukulele club taking up lunchtimes.

Next meeting date will be the 19th May.

BBQ Sausage Sizzle proceeds for the next BBQ will go to Make A Wish - Also a Dress Up Day - Star Day -Movie star, singing star for make a wish - run by Briarna.
Friday 14 May.

Aaron has spoken to Mr. Graham about the boys toilets and Mr. Graham is going to speak to me!

Clean Up Day - Samara and Ms. D to look at the board and pick a date for the clean up - Term 2, 3 or 4.

Sir Peter Blake Leadership Day - 2 July
Katelyn to organise - intially by putting up the posters.
Katelyn is sure that her poppa will know Sir. Peter Blake as he does a lot of boating and fishing!

Level 3-4s are going to the Captain's Run this Friday - to see the Super 14 players for Otago.

Jeannie to see Ms. D for the Mornington Messenger dates.

Samara to report back on Green Up Clean Up Info.

Jeannie will run the Kidsline poster competition.

Sam and Katelyn - selling poppies the next 2 days (can also start today after school).

Teacher Dare Event - Jason Mark and Briarna are in charge. JM and BK will come to the staff meeting on Monday and ask the teachers.

Sam - the Feat Activity - the World Cup 2010 being held in South Africa!
You have to enter your school.
One child's name will win a football game in Sth Africa.
Still unsure of what/how/who.
Aaron thinks you have to wear pedometers. How fast your class walks?
Ms. D to look into entering.

Clean, Green, Clean Up Event/Day - Samara.

Movie - Aaron has a basic script - next step to write full script.

Briarna - Canteen - lists all ready. Need to put in the newsletter. 12.30-12.35 open. Briarna needs to get money and float, etc from Marie and advertise that the canteen is opening next term!

'Good Blokes Day' - Ideas for this: wiki or page on website to do with this event - bbq, arm wrestles, sack races, eat a banana without hands, fear factor (eat a dry weetbix), guess the food with the blind fold on, 3 legged races.

Teacher's Dare - what are the options for teachers? What will you the Council be prepared to do for $$$??

Council all in favour of asking non Council members who have shown an interest in the council to help with different activities.
BK will ask Storm to help with canteen.

Samara - $55 raised for puppy dog appeal from our 'crazy' day - Samara will write a letter and get a cheque from Marie.

Briarna - would feel a bit embarrassed if I had nits but not if I had eggs

Katelyn - don't mind them checking but would rather my Mum did the treatement.

Blind Dog Appeal - Friday 19th - Crazy Day - you choose, crazy hair, crazy costume - crazy everything! The council are asking for a gold coin donation for the Red Puppy Appeal.

#1 Meeting - Wednesday 24 March 2010

Ms. D welcomed everyone.

Jeannie will bring afternoon tea for next week's meeting.

Ideas for our 'council' agreement are to be brought to next week's meeting.

Ms. D likes the idea of hats and t-shirts instead of badges for the council this year - will investigate.

Sam - to survey classes this afternoon for 'Walk to School' week.

Jeannie will write a blurb for the monthly Mornington Messenger.

Zayleah to put up posters for 'Walk to School' week and help promote the event.
Samara and Briarna to visit classes this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to show the prizes and get the message out there.
Katelyn will speak about it at assembly this week.

Jason-Mark will take over checking the council email and bringing emails to our meetings.

Sunday 7 March - Children's Day at Nairn St. Reserve - all councillors interested in attending to run our stall selling potatos, cabbages, eggs and having a jar of lollies.

BEING ON THE COUNCIL MEANS THAT YOU HAVE A 'SAY' IN YOUR SCHOOL AND THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN IN IT.
IT ALSO MEANS THAT YOU ARE AN IDENTIFIABLE 'ROLE MODEL' WHO IS INTERESTED IN LEADERSHIP ACTIVITIES. THESE MAY BE ORGANISING DISCOS, ATTENDING SPONSORSHIP DAYS, RUNNING TOY SALES, ETC.

USUALLY OUR COUNCIL IS MADE UP OF 6-8 MEMBERS BUT THIS IS FLEXIBLE DEPENDING ON POPULARITY.
